Author Phyllis B. Grodsky.

How did I, a retired Ph.D. in social/personality psychology, come to write the history of a presidential home?

I’ve always been interested in history and belong to the Society for the History of Psychology Division of the American Psychological Association.

My research interests centered around social issues with policy implications, and included gambling among clients in New York City social agencies, street peddler activity in New York City (for which I received a Ford Foundation grant), and the efficacy of AIDS brochures.

As a member of the New York Academy of Sciences, I sat on a committee that developed “Interdisciplinary Principles and Guidelines for the Use of Animals in Research, Testing, and Education,” the first guidelines of its genre.

My curiosity has taken me many places that figuratively and literally spice up my life.
